Steelers fullback Roosevelt Nix claims he had no setback, expects to play against Dolphins
PITTSBURGH 鈥 Roosevelt Nix was a full participant in practice all week leading up to Sunday鈥檚 game against the Jets, but was unexpectedly ruled out on the team鈥檚 official injury report on Friday.
The ruling indicated that there might have been a setback in his recovery from a back injury that has kept him out since the preseason. Nix, however, told The Times on Monday that a setback never occurred.
鈥淣ah, I鈥檓 just waiting,鈥 Nix said.
The Steelers placed Senquez Golson and Ryan Harris on injured reserve on Saturday and called up Matt Feiler and Al-Hajj Shabazz from the practice squad. The team was already injury-riddled with four starters and eight total players other than Nix unable to play. They Steelers could have used him on special teams.
Nix said that his back 鈥渇eels good,鈥 and that it was coach Mike Tomlin鈥檚 decision to hold him out against the Jets.
鈥淚 do what the coach says to do,鈥 he said. 鈥淚鈥檓 ready to go and expecting to play this week (against the Dolphins).鈥
Nix said the injury caused tightness to the core of his lower back. He has not played since Week 1 of the preseason, and those types of injuries easily can be aggravated.
鈥淚t was a day-to-day thing,鈥 Nix said. 鈥淚鈥檝e been day-to-day for a while. Just been able to go through practice and get back into the swing of things and feeling better.鈥
