Crown Jewel was lackluster

WWE presented Crown Jewel Friday on the WWE Network, and while the show provided newsworthy items, it wasn鈥檛 the promotion鈥檚 best effort.

Triple H injured in main event

Not surprisingly, Triple H and Shawn Michaels defeated Kane and The Undertaker in the main event, and at first thought, the match came across as slow and methodical at best.

After all, all four men are past their respective primes with Triple H being the youngest at 49.

Then word broke after the show that Triple H may have torn a pectoral muscle and is on his way to see Dr. James Andrews in Birmingham, Alabama. Triple H was 鈥渓aid out鈥 at ringside and seemed to be down for longer than normal, and the apparent injury would explain why.

It also provides the reason that the match did not seem to click.

Lack of young talent on show

With three of the four main event wrestlers from Crown Jewel being in their 50s, WWE once again showed its knack for relying on older stars than building the stars of tomorrow.

AJ Styles retained the WWE title against Samoa Joe and Brock Lesnar defeated Braun Strowman for the Universal title in the other two big matches, with both men being 41.

More on why WWE going with Lesnar instead of Strowman next week.

In the eight-man World Cup tournament, Rey Mysterio, Randy Orton, Jeff Hardy, Kurt Angle, and Bobby Lashley are all in their 40s. The Miz and Dolph Ziggler, two of the other men in the tournament, are 38, while 32-year old Seth Rollins was the youngest man in the tournament.

Hulk Hogan, who is now 65, served as the host of the event.

World Cup winner

So which of the eight men previously mentioned won the tournament? None of them was the winner as 48-year old Shane McMahon won the tournament.

Unfortunately, that is not a typo.

The tournament came down to The Miz and Ziggler in the finals, but The Miz hurt his knee and McMahon, who happened to be at ringside, made the referee add him into the match to face Ziggler.

I am not joking.

Survivor Series matches announced

WWE presents Survivor Series two weeks from today and three matches have been announced.

Styles and Lesnar will square off in a rematch from a stellar bout from last year鈥檚 Survivor Series, Rollins, the Intercontinental champion, will face U.S. champion Shinsuke Nakamura and Ronda Rousey will face Becky Lynch in a match between the two women鈥檚 champions.

The guess here is that McMahon winning the tournament will set up an elimination bout at Survivor Series.
