WWE to promote three big shows at once
Since the inception of monthly WWE PPVs in 1995, the company has used a steady blueprint of only focusing on the upcoming show unless WrestleMania or a bigger event was on the horizon.
However, WWE is in a unique situation where it is promoting three PPVs, or special events, at once.
WWE presents Hell in a Cell on PPV next Sunday, and we will look into the event more next week.
But the company is also promoting the company’s huge show, titled Super Show-Down, on Oct. 6 from Melbourne, Australia, as well as the first-ever all-women’s PPV, Evolution, on Oct. 28.
WWE’s move to promote three big shows at once is unprecedented, outside of when it was running split-brand shows and the dual brand events.
Even though WWE is building three different events, it doesn’t feel to me as if it is sacrificing Hell in a Cell’s build.
Could this become the norm for WWE, when it announces matches and runs storylines for different shows? On the horizon for the company is a return to Saudi Arabia as part of WWE’s 10-year deal with the country.
HBK to return to the ring?
Speaking of Saudi Arabia, could Shawn Michaels make his long-awaited return to the ring at the November event?
When WWE ran the first show in Saudi Arabia right after WrestleMania, the country’s higher-ups wanted Michaels to wrestle on the show.
This past Monday on Raw, Michaels and The Undertaker delivered one of the top segments on WWE TV in quite a while, and it originally revolved around the Triple H and Taker bout from Australia.
However, it turned into a tease for another match between Michaels and Taker.
There is talk of Michaels taking part in a tag match at the Saudi show and then a potential Mania rematch with Taker. The pair wrestled in the greatest Mania match of all-time at Mania 25, and Taker retired The Heartbreak Kid a year later.
Michaels hasn’t wrestled in over eight years, but wouldn’t it be something if he came back to face Taker one more time, only for Michaels to now retire The Dead Man?
Bryan finally inks deal
For months, it had been reported that Daniel Bryan was negotiating a new deal with WWE.
His most recent deal ended on Sept. 1, but Bryan and WWE had come to an agreement a while ago and there were only a few small details that needed ironed out.
The deal, which is for multiple years, will include a limited schedule for Bryan as he wants to be home with his infant daughter as much as possible.
Mixed Match Challenge
WWE announced earlier in the week that the Mixed Match Challenge will return late this month. The new season debuts on Facebook Watch on Tuesday, Sept. 18, immediately following Smackdown.
On this date:
In 1991, Ric Flair wrestles his first WWE televised match when he defeats Jim Powers.
This week’s question:
Triple H has never defeated The Undertaker at a PPV. Will he finally do it in Australia? Steve, Waynesburg.
A one-word answer, yes.
Taker has defeated Triple H at three WrestleMania’s, X-7, XXVII and XXVIII, as well as at King of the Ring 2002. It would make sense for Triple H to win, especially if Michaels interferes.
