WVU baseball hosts first regional since 1955
While the West Virginia Mountaineers were eliminated from the regional it hosted over the weekend in the NCAA baseball tournament, the experience live was electric at times for those in attendance.
Hosting its first NCAA Baseball Regional since 1955, a stadium record 4,355 fans showed up Friday night to watch WVU defeated Fordham, 6-2.
The Mountaineers fell to Duke Saturday night and were eliminated on a walk-off grand slam by Texas A&M Sunday, but for those at Monongalia County Ballpark, the experience will be something that the fans there live will never forget.
Football start times trickling out
Last week, start times were announced for several college football games for Pitt, Penn State and WVU.
Pitt鈥檚 opener will be a prime time start on the ACC Network with a 7:30 kick while PSU hosts Idaho at 3:30.
The start time WVU鈥檚 opener against James Madison has not been announced yet.
Several Pitt fans reached out and were upset that the start time at Penn State on Sept. 14 is at noon and not at night as it was this past season at Heinz Field.
What made them even more mad was that the week prior, Penn State hosts Buffalo at 7:30 p.m.
Speaking of night games, Pitt has two others already announced as the Panthers head to Syracuse on Friday, Oct. 18 and host North Carolina on Thursday, Nov. 14.
Penn State has had one other night game announced with it being at Maryland on Friday, Sept. 27.
There will be at least one more for the Nittany Lions as PSU hosts Michigan in its annual White Out game and look for at least one more game to be played at night, perhaps at Ohio State.
WVU鈥檚 only night game announced thus far is at Baylor on Halloween.
Awesome stat of the week
Usually this section is titled the 鈥淐razy Stat of the Week,鈥 but we switched it up today.
On Monday, California University of Pennsylvania announced that 191 student-athletes were named to the Athletic Director Honor Roll for the spring semester.
The Vulcans posted a cumulative GPA of 3.258 with 23 of the student-athletes earning a perfect 4.0.
Yes, this column is about college athletics, but at the end of the day, there is a reason that the word 鈥渟tudent鈥 comes before 鈥渁thlete鈥 in the phrase 鈥渟tudent-athlete.鈥
Kudos to all of the hard-working student-athletes, not just at Cal U, but everywhere!
