Geibel Cathotic graduate Emily Zimcosky was supposed to be exhausting her collegiate swimming eligibility this season at Liberty University.

However, the senior has applied for a redshirt after finding out she had Bilateral Anterior and Lateral Compartment Syndrome.

The condition is when there is an increased pressure within a muscular compartment that compromises the circulation to the muscles.

鈥淚 had been training through lots of leg pain, numbness and burning after conference championships around March,鈥 the six-time WPIAL champion, one-time PIAA champion and 2016 Olympic trials qualifier said. 鈥淭he pain started to carry over into everyday activities like walking to class, so we decided to further look into its cause.

鈥淎fter an August of full rest, physical therapy and loads of testing, the trainers figured out that I had (the condition).鈥

Zimcosky described what was happening.

鈥淚t caused intense pressure buildup in my legs, messing with my blood flow and causing my pain and other symptoms,鈥 she said. 鈥淎fter discussing what the season would look like if I had tried to continue without surgery and what effects that I could have in the long run, I made the decision to redshirt and have the surgery as quickly as possible.鈥

The surgery took place on Sept. 24.

鈥淭his season, it is a lot of recovery and making sure I am not pushing it too far while getting back into the training,鈥 the always-positive Zimcosky said. 鈥淚t is all about rewiring my muscles to fire properly.

鈥淚t is a lot more physical therapy, swimming and cheering on the team as we compete!鈥

Knoyer excels at Malone Invite

Logan Knoyer, a Laurel Highlands graduate, continues to perform well for the West Virginia Wesleyan swim team as they finished third at the Malone Invitational in Canton, Ohio.

Knoyer, a senior, finished second as part of the 200 freestyle relay team, fourth as part of the 200 medley relay, fifth in the 50 freestyle and in the 100 IM, sixth in the 100 freestyle and 11th in the 100 breaststroke.

The team heads to compete in the Corbiere Meyer Invitational this weekend.

PSU-Pitt rematch possible in bowl?

While Penn State and Pitt are not scheduled to play again, could they face off in the Orange Bowl? How, you ask?

If Pitt wins at Virginia Tech Saturday and against Boston College next week to finish 9-3, the Panthers could end up as the ACC鈥檚 representative in Miami.

Penn State is a huge underdog Saturday in Columbus and is expected to lose to the Buckeyes. Let鈥檚 say PSU falls to OSU, but beats Rutgers next weekend.

The Nittany Lions would be 10-2 and could be picked for a New year鈥檚 Six game.

So yes, a rematch, while unlikely, is indeed possible.

Penn State came out flat at Minnesota two weeks and it cost the team a legit chance at making the College Football Playoff.

I was in Minnesota and the environment was fun to be in as it was the program鈥檚 biggest win in over 40 years.

Penn State needs to fix its secondary issues quick if it is to have a chance to upset the Buckeyes Saturday.

Between Indiana this past Saturday and Minnesota, Penn State has allowed over 700 passing yards and Ohio State is licking its chops.
