Smackdown massive drop

By Bill Hughes for The 3 min read

On the first episode of Smackdown on Fox two weeks ago, 3,888,000 fans tuned in.

The second episode saw a significant drop in viewership as WWE lost just under one million viewers to conclude the night with 2,899,000 viewers.

The difference in the number of eyeballs on the product was losing over 989,000 people from the first week to the second.

Granted, WWE had to expect a big drop as people were tuning in to the first show to see what all of the hype was about.

It will be interesting to see what WWE draws tonight.

If Smackdown continues to lose viewers, expect Fox to jump in quickly and be hands on with the product.

Kingston already forgotten?

On that first Fox episode of Smackdown, Kofi Kingston’s WWE title reign, which lasted over six months, was ended by Brock Lesnar in under 10 seconds.

So Kingston showed up last week upset and asking for a rematch, right?

Nope.

He came out with his fellow New Day members and threw pancakes into the crowd.

It isn’t as if Kingston was buried enough against Lesnar, but now he doesn’t want a rematch.

That makes total sense.

(Note the heavy sarcasm.)

WWE’s Draft

WWE held its most recent draft last Friday on Smackdown and this past Monday on Raw.

The shows were underwhelming to say the least, and it was odd to see Stephanie McMahon announce all of the picks.

While WWE is looking to get away from figureheads, it still would have made sense for each show to have a representative there to make picks.

Several emailers mentioned how the draft seemed pointless and how most of the wrestlers selected haven’t been built up yet.

That is WWE for you, in a nutshell.

Bischoff already gone from WWE

Eric Bischoff was brought in four months ago to be the head of Smackdown.

The move lasted all of two episodes into the new Fox deal as he was notified that he was being let go.

Bruce Pritchard, known best as his role of Brother Love some 30 years ago, takes over.

Moxley stripped of NJPW title

Jon Moxley, known in WWE as Dean Ambrose, was stripped of the IWGP title because of travel issues.

Typhoon Hagibis caused travel delays for Moxley so the company moved in a different direction.

Halloween busy day for WWE

Not only will WWE present Crown Jewel in Saudi Arabia, but it will also hold a conference call with investors to announce its 2019 third quarter results.

Wrestler asks for release

Mike Kanellis has asked for his WWE release.

It will be interesting to see if his wife Maria asks for hers as well. It is doubtful though as she just signed an extension and is pregnant with the couple’s second child.

AEW to Pittsburgh

AEW makes its Pittsburgh debut Wednesday and tickets are still available.

The event is a TV taping at the Petersen Events Center on the campus of the University of Pittsburgh.
