Penn State Fayette, The Eberly Campus, held its second annual Penn State Fayette Fall Golf Invitational on Sept. 14, and the event showed how far the program has come.

Fayette Athletic Director Lou Zadecky spoke about the event, head coach Dave Gumbert and the growing program.

鈥淚 am so excited about the growth and success of our golf team and head coach Dave Gumbert,鈥 Zadecky said. 鈥淚 believe the Penn State Fayette campus and our golf program can be a great place for local high school golf talent to start their education and golf career.鈥

Fayette finished third at the Invitational, which took place at the Uniontown Country Club, with a team score of 343.

Gumbert spoke about the gathering.

鈥淭he weather was great and the fans enjoyed a high level of competitive golf,鈥 he said. 鈥淲e are thankful for the strong support provided by the ownership team of the Duck Hollow Golf Course and the Uniontown Country Club.鈥

Zadecky also shared his appreciation.

鈥淲e are so appreciative of our gracious partnership with the Uniontown Country Club and the event hosted men and women from 10 universities and colleges,鈥 he said. 鈥淭he day was a great success and highlighted some competitive golf.鈥

Louis Gonzalez looked best for Fayette at the Invitational, tying for fifth place with a score of 79.

Pitt bounces back

After dropping a 17-10 decision at Penn State on Sept. 14, Pitt upset Central Florida Saturday.

Pitt went up 21-0, and then gave up 31 straight points before scoring late to win the game.

The team will look to build on its win when it hosts Delaware Saturday, and then heads to Duke to return to ACC play.

Penn State faces road test

Friday night, Penn State heads to Maryland to play the 鈥楾erps in what should be a hostile environment.

How big is the game to Maryland?

The university canceled classes for the day to give fans the day to get ready and to help nullify Washington D.C. traffic.

Maryland has brought in extra bleachers to get more fans into the stands.

While Penn State has won the last two meetings by a combine scored of 104-6, this could be a tricky game for the Nittany Lions, as it will be the first road game for many of the young players.

Look for a first-person report from the game in the next column.
