Lady Falcon wrestlers place third in Butler Tourney
Trinity Moore had a first-place finish Saturday to help Connellsville place third at the Butler Girls Wrestling Tournament.
Moore pinned Laurel Alexis Brua in 1:23 for the title at 124 pounds.
Teammate Janayah Nobles lost an 8-5 decision to Kiski Area’s Ava Golding in the 136-pound title bout.
The Lady Falcons’ Imani Cameron-Botti was pinned by Laurel’s Contessa Cotelesse in 1:56 in the third-place consolation final at 155 yards.
Boys basketball
Southmoreland 77, Ligonier Valley 35 – The undefeated Scotties were victorious against the Rams in the WCCA Showcase.
Southmoreland (3-0) led 19-16, 46-30 and 64-33 at the quarter breaks.
Noah Felentzer paced the Scotties with 17 points. Ty Keffer scored 16 points and Wyatt Richter added 15.
Parker Hollick led Ligonier Valley (1-3) with 11 points.
Derry 73, Mount Pleasant 56 – Nate Papuga scored a game-high 33 points to lead the Trojans past the Vikings in the WCCA Showcase.
Brady Angus (14) and Stanley Rajkocich (13) also finished in double figures for Derry (3-1).
Dante Giallonardo was the top scorer for Mount Pleasant (0-3) with 17 points. Connor Pavlocak scored 10 points.
Yough 65, Monessen 47 – Terek Crosby finished with a game-high 36 points to lead the Cougars past the Greyhounds in the WCCA Showcase.
Yough (4-1) led 14-8 after the first quarter and 28-17 at halftime. The Cougars’ advantage grew to 46-30 after three quarters.
Austin Matthews was also in double figures for Yough with 18 points.
Lorenzo Gardner led Monessen (1-1) with 16 points. Devontae Robinson added 15.
Girls basketball
Bishop Canevin 52, California 37 – The Lady Crusaders downed California in a non-section game.
Isabella Sysak paced Bishop Canevin (1-2) with 27 points. Julianna Umalin scored 12.
Rakiyah Porter led the Lady Trojans (1-1) with 23 points.
Morgantown (W.Va.) 74, Albert Gallatin 26 – The home team outscored the Lady Colonials in the second quarter, 30-4, to pull away for a non-section victory.
Mikayla Shea led Albert Gallatin (0-3) with 16 points.
Kayli Kellogg (22), Lily Jordan (15), and Sofia Wassick (11) combined for 48 points in the victory.
Women’s basketball
Penn State Fayette 63, Penn State Wilkes-Barre 57 – The Lady Lions held off visiting Penn State Wilkes-Barre for a PSUAC home victory.
Penn State Fayette led 37-29 at halftime and 48-36 after three quarters.
Abby Bickerton had a double-double for Fayette with 12 points and 14 rebounds. Sophia Zalar scored a team-high 13 points. Daelin Burnsworth (10) and Heaven Grumm (12) also scored in double figures.
Hannah Cook finished with 13 points for Wilkes-Barre. Tanae Arnold scored 12 points and Aysia Pink added 11.
Allegheny 90, Waynesburg 53 – The Yellow Jackets dropped a Presidents’ Athletic Conference game on the road to the Gators.
Julz Mohrbacher led Waynesburg (0-6, 0-9) with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Anika Dansby finished with 10 points.
Allegheny improves to 3-3 in the conference and 3-7 overall.
Men’s basketball
Penn State Fayette 90, Penn State Wilkes-Barre – The Lions led 45-33 at halftime and held off a second-half rally for a PSUAC home victory.
Fayette’s Dasilas Jones poured in a game-high 35 points. Torian Jenkins had a double-double with 24 points and 10 rebounds. Darius Tigner added 10 points.
Teiquan Hollen (18), Elijah Perez (17), Anton Berga (16), Allen Ozojie (10), and Jaylyn Williams (10) all scored in double digits for Penn State Wilkes-Barre.
Allegheny 61, Waynesburg 54 – The Gators used a 12-4 run at the end of the game to rally past the visiting Yellow Jackets in PAC action.
Jordan McLoyd paced Waynesburg (2-4, 4-5) with 14 points. PJ Suggs added 10 points.
Allegheny goes to 3-3 in the conference and 4-6 overall.
