Local roundup: Urcho scores 32 as Bearcats top California
Landon Urcho poured in a game-high 32 points to help Bentworth defeat host California in non-section boys basketball action on Wednesday night.
Chris Harper hit a trio of 3-pointers in adding 20 points for the Bearcats who improved to 9-5.
Bentworth led 18-13, 37-24 and 57-37 at the quarter breaks.
Aidan Lowden paced the Trojans (4-11) with 20 points and Vinny Manzella sank three 3-pointers while scoring 11 points. Caden Powell chipped in 10 points.
Southmoreland 78, Indiana 55 — The Scotties churned out 51 points in the first half on their way to a non-section victory over the visiting Indians.
Ty Keffer led the way for Southmoreland (10-5) with a game-high 27 points. Elijan Myers and Wyatt Richter followed with 14 and 12 points, respectively.
The Scotties were up 29-21 after a high-scoring first quarter and built their lead to 19 points by halftime and 29 points at the end of three quarters.
Stanford Webb led Indiana (5-10) with 17 points and Gavin Homer had 16 points.
Girls basketball
Waynesburg Central 47, South Allegheny 37 — The Lady Raiders limited host South Allegheny to one point in the second quarter in building a 25-9 halftime lead and held on from there for a non-section win.
Kaley Rohanna led all scorers with 22 points for Waynesburg (13-2) which also got 12 points from Peyton Cowell.
The Lady Raiders led 13-8 after the first quarter before outscoring South Allegheny (7-9) 12-1 in the second and 14-12 in the third for a 39-21 advantage.
Addison Blair added eight points for Waynesburg.
Angelina Cortazzo was the lone Lady Gladiator in double figures with 19 points.
