Lady Gators rally for 62-48 win over visiting Frazier
The Geibel Catholic girls overcame a 14-point deficit in the first quarter Monday night to rally for a 62-48 non-section victory against visiting Frazier.
The Lady Gators trailed, 16-2, before going on a run to tie the game at 16-16.
The Lady Commodores (5-17) regained the lead and managed to exit the first half with a 28-27 advantage.
Geibel (16-6) regained the lead for good with a 22-18 third quarter, and secured the win with a 13-2 advantage in the final eight minutes.
The Lady Gators’ Emma Larkin scored a game-high 37 points. Ava Henderson contributed 18 points.
Frazier’s Gabriella McGavitt had a double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds. Malana Burton and Allie Yauch both scored 11 points.
Monessen 54, Charleroi 39 – The Lady Greyhounds ended the regular season with a win against the visiting Lady Cougars.
Monessen enters the WPIAL playoffs with an overall record of 17-5. Charleroi ends its season with an overall mark of 9-13.
The Lady Greyhounds held quarter leads of 19-6, 28-20 and 41-26.
MyAsia Majors led Monessen with 14 points. Sidney Campbell added 13.
Bella Carroto paced the Lady Cougars with a game-high 17 points. Ella Sypolt finished with 11.
Elizabeth Forward 64, Baldwin 45 – Alyssa Terza, Michelle Jellison and Kaelynn Settles combined for 51 points to lead the Lady Warriors to a home non-section victory.
Terza scored a game-high 22 points for Elizabeth Forward (20-2). Michelle Jellison finished with 16 points and Settles added 13.
Waynesburg Central 67, California 38 – The Lady Raiders won on the road in a non-section game that featured two WPIAL playoff teams.
Waynesburg (20-2) led 39-28 at halftime and salted the game away with a 28-10 advantage in the second half.
Kaley Rohanna led the way for the Lady Raiders with a game-high 28 points. Avery Davis finished with 13 points and Josie Horne grabbed 13 rebounds.
Rakiyah Porter scored 18 points for the Lady Trojans (10-12).
Connellsville 45, Southmoreland 16 – The Lady Falcons ended the season on a winning note with a non-section victory over the visiting Lady Scots.
Connellsville (5-16) led 18-4, 32-6 and 41-8 at the quarter breaks.
The Lady Falcons’ Whitney Bobish scored a game-high 10 points. Elizabeth Painter and Bailey Liska both finished with nine points.
Gianna Perbonish scored five points for Southmoreland (3-19).
Boys basketball
Thomas Jefferson 99, Belle Vernon 90 – The Jaguars won the season-ending, high-scoring, non-section game by scoring over 20 points in each quarter.
Thomas Jefferson (19-3) led 25-14 after the first quarter and 49-37 at halftime. The lead was 73-65 after three quarters.
Zion Moore paced the Leopards (12-8) with a game-high 38 points, including seven 3-pointers. Trevor Kovatch scored 25 points and Alonzo Wade added 10.
Noah Prosser (23), Nicholas Trklja (21), Brody Evans (19), Evan Berger (14), and Joe Mendyk (10) all scored in double figures for the Jaguars.
Canon-McMillan 73, Connellsville 63 – The Falcons led after the first quarter, but the Big Macs rallied for the halftime lead in a non-section home win.
Canon-McMillan (9-13) led 36-34 at halftime and 55-50 after three quarters.
Anthony Piasecki led Connellsville (2-20) with 17 points. Kace Shearer and Bruce Giles both finished with 10 points.
Eamon O’Donaghue led the way for Canon-McMillan with a game-high 19 points.
Hockey
Ringgold 8, Sewickley Academy 3 – The Rams spread the scoring around with seven different players scoring a goal for a PIHL D2 Division road victory.
Ringgold (10-5-0-1-1) led 3-0 after the first period and the advantage grew to 7-2 after two periods.
The Rams’ Matt Sylvester scored two goals. Phil Quattrone, Bruce Santina, Zach Cheplic, Landon Vaccaro, Caden Doran and Owen Haywood all finished with one goal.
Ringgold’s Collin Moffett stopped 12 shots. Sewickley Academy’s Jack Carlson turned aside 47 shots.
