Leopards fend off Warriors for 63-60 home victory

The Belle Vernon boys held a slim lead at the half Tuesday night, and made the advantage stand in the second half for a 63-60 victory over visiting Elizabeth Forward in Section 3-AAAA action.

The Leopards (3-2, 8-4) led 19-18 after the first quarter and 31-26 at halftime. The Warriors sliced two points off the deficit in the third quarter.

The teams played to a 14-14 tie in the fourth quarter.

Zion Moore finished with a game-high 19 points and six assists. Trevor Kovatch added 14 points and seven steals. Curtis Wade had 12 points and six rebounds. Alonzo Wade contributed 10 points and six rebounds.

Isaiah Turner led Elizabeth Forward (1-3, 9-5) with 15 points. Cy Herchelroth (14), Daniel Spence (11), and Charlie Meehlieb (10) also scored in double figures.

Yough 56, Charleroi 34 – Terek Crosby, Austin Matthews and Zander Aird combined to score 49 points to lead Yough to a Section 4-AAA home victory.

Crosby scored a game-high 20 points. Matthews finished with 17 points and Zander Aird added 12.

Yough (5-1, 10-4) led 14-7, 25-9 and 38-22 at the quarter breaks.

Jackson Keranko led Charleroi (2-4, 6-9) with 17 points.

Women’s basketball

Penn State Beaver 63, Penn State Fayette 26 – Penn State Fayette was held to single digits in each of the four quarters in a PSUAC road loss.

Penn State Beaver (10-0, 10-6) led 12-4 after the first quarter and 30-13 at halftime. The home team’s lead grew to 48-17 at the end of the third quarter.

Daelin Burnsworth led Penn State Fayette (3-7, 4-11) with eight points. Sophia Zalar finished with six points.

Caitlyn O’Hara scored a game-high 16 points for Penn State Beaver. Emery Black finished with 13 points and Alison Boykin added 11.

The teams shot a combined 2-of-25 from 3-point range and 34-of-125 from the field.

Men’s basketball

Penn State Fayette 77, Penn State Beaver 73 – Penn State Fayette had to hold off the home in the second half for a PSUAC road victory.

Penn State Fayette (5-5, 8-8) led 44-29 at halftime.

Torian Jenkins paced Fayette with a game-high 21 points. Jahmere Richardson and Dasilas Jones both scored 15.

Josh McCloud led Penn State Beaver (4-6, 5-11) with a game-high 23 points. Chris Green finished with 20 points.
