Arnett hits game-winner as Cal tops Lock Haven

Antoine Arnett hit a jump shot wit 1.3 seconds left to lift PennWest California to a dramatic 63-61 victory over host Lock Haven in a PSAC men’s basketball crossover game on Saturday at Thomas Field House.

The Vulcans (3-0, 6-4) extended their winning streak to five games as Arnett turned in one of Cal’s three double-doubles with 11 points and 11 rebounds.

California trailed 60-56 when Brayden Reynolds grabbed an offensive rebound and scored with 1:18 left to get the Vulcans within two.

Arnett rebounded a missed shot by the Bald Eagles and Reynolds was fouled again with 38 seconds remaining. He made the first and missed the second but Bryson Lucas grabbed the rebound and scored to put Cal ahead 61-60.

Lock Haven’s Dyllon Scott was fouled with 10 seconds left and made the first to tie the game at 61-61 but missed the second with Arnett gathering in the rebound and then sinking the game-winning shot.

Jordyn Buchanan led a balanced attack for the Vulcans with 15 points and also had five assists. Joining Arnett with double-doubles were Lucas with 14 points and 11 rebounds along with five assists and Ray Joshua with 10 points and 11 boards to go along with three blocked shots.

Cal led 31-29 at halftime.

Keith Warren paced the Bald Eagles (0-3, 4-6) with 15 points and was followed by Dean Coleman-Newsome (14) and Scott (11).

Waynesburg 80, Carlow 70 — Jackson Rhodes made four of seven 3-pointers in scoring a game-high 27 points and Waynesburg used a closing 22-8 run to knock off the host Celtics in a non-conference game.

The Yellow Jackets held a 58-51 advantage when Carlow went on an 11-point run to go up 62-58 with 6:36 remaining. Waynesburg (4-7) responded with a 3-pointer by Grant Barnhart and then a jump shot by Mikey Smith to take the lead for good at 63-62 with 5:07 left.

The run also including treys by Jalen Goins to make it 68-64 with 3:57 left and Barnhart again to make it 71-64 with 3:05 remaining.

Casey Keesee and Scott Bilovus followed Rhodes in the Yellow Jackets’ scoring column with 11 points apiece and Goins totaled eight points, nine rebounds and eight assists.

Jimmy Giannetta poured in a game-high 30 points for the Bald Eagles (1-12) who also got 12 points from Clayton Cook and 10 points from Braedon Beard.

Waynesburg led 39-37 at halftime.
