Colorado linebacker Devin Grant (44) celebrates after overtime in an NCAA college football game against California in at Folsom Field, Saturday, Oct. 15, 2022, in Boulder, Colo.

Rich Rodriguez and West Virginia added another player to its large laundry list of transfer portal additions this spring, and it’s one of its biggest additions.

Incarnate Ward and former Colorado defensive lineman Devin Grant announced his commitment on X Monday night. He has one year of eligibility left.

Grant took an official visit to Morgantown on May 4 after entering the portal on April 25.

He’s one of the biggest splashes this portal period as a productive pass rusher at the Power Four and in the lower Division I level. Grant had 7.5 sacks last season at Incarnate Ward, which would’ve placed him as a top 40 pass rusher last year. He also spent two seasons with Colorado while it was in the Pac-12, where he saw less action, but still added more experience.

Rodriguez added one of the biggest pass rushers in the winter with UTSA’s Jimmori Robinson, and pairing him with Grant should make the Mountaineers a threat in the pass rush game, which over the past couple of years had been an issue. Defensive coordinator Zac Alley mentioned after the Gold-Blue Spring Showcase that getting to the quarterback needed to be more of a priority.

Pass rushers have been a high demand over the years with the air raid offense becoming more prominent in college and in the pros. The second-highest non-quarterback in the NFL is a pass rusher. There are never enough pass rushers, and Rodriguez has made that known in the portal this offseason.

Grant puts the Mountaineers at 50 transfers from the winter and spring combined.
