Local roundup: Shaler’s Boslijevac pitches no-hitter in playoff win over Connellsville
Shaler junior Bria Boslijevac missed the postseason last year due to a hand injury, and back injury hindered most of her regular season this year, but the Indiana University commit was firing on all cylinders Monday afternoon in the first round of the WPIAL Class 5A softball playoffs at Plum High School.
Boslijevac was an error away from a perfect game in not allowing a run or hit over seven innings in the Lady Titans’ 8-0 victory over Connellsville. She had 16 strikeouts and no walks.
Shaler (15-4) scored four runs in the second inning, one in the fifth and three in the sixth.
Despite scoring eight runs, the Lady Titans only had four hits, but two of those were very big, as Jayla Antomachi hit a grand slam in the second inning, and a three-run home run in the sixth for seven RBIs.
The Lady Falcons’ Molly Greenawald reached base on an error in the second inning. Teammate Kendal King took the loss in the pitching circle, but only four runs were earned. She had three strikeouts.
Connellsville finishes its season at 12-7.
The Lady Titans play Trinity (12-9) on Wednesday in the quarterfinals at West Mifflin High School. The first pitch is set for 3 p.m.
Beaver 8, Belle Vernon 1 — The Lady Bobcats scored seven unanswered runs in a first-round playoff victory in Class 4A at Pleasant Valley Elementary School in McMurray.
Beaver (14-5) will play Knoch (17-3) on Wednesday in the quarterfinals at North Allegheny High School. The first pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m.
The Lady Leopards’ season ends at 9-11.
The Lady Bobcats took a 1-0 lead in the first inning before Belle Vernon tied the game with a run in the fourth frame on Lauren VanDivner’s RBI single.
Beaver regained its advantage with one run in the bottom of the inning before scoring two in the fifth and four in the sixth.
The Lady Bobcats’ Sami Springman had two hits, including a double, and knocked in one run. Teammate Bella Marino had two base hits and two RBIs.
Jaedyn Brown and Olivia Peabody had one hit apiece and each knocked in one run for Beaver.
Brown earned the win in the pitching circle after allowing one earned run on five hits with three strikeouts and one walk.
