Unbeaten Waynesburg advances to WPIAL volleyball final four

Ari Cree rang up 16 kills, 12 digs and four aces as undefeated and second-seeded Waynesburg Central swept past No. 10 Neshannock, 3-0, in their WPIAL Class 2A girls volleyball quarterfinal playoff match on the Raiders’ home floor Thursday night.
Coach Dan Higinibothamm’s squad won by scores of 25-23, 25-19 and 25-12.
Waynesburg, which improved to 20-0 overall, advances to the final four where it will face No. 11 Avonworth at a date, site and time to be determined. The Lady Antelopes (12-6) upset third-seeded Seton LaSalle, 3-2.
The Raiders were the Section 3 champions. Avonworth finished third in Section 1 behind top-seeded Hopewell and No. 4 Our Lady of the Sacred Heart, which both also advanced Thursday and will meet in the other semifinal match.
The Lady Lancers’ season ends with an 11-4 record.
Railey Bochna totaled 10 kills, four digs and two blocks and Chatham Knight contributed 14 assists and eight digs for Waynesburg.
The Raiders also got five kills, nine digs and six aces from Emily Rafferty, 14 assists from Gina Tedrow, 13 digs, three assists and two aces from Lelia McCollum and three kills and five digs from Harper Grimes.
