Colonials top Steel Valley for first win

By Rob Burchianti 2 min read

Kanyon Sutton threw a three-hit shutout and was 2 for 2 with a walk and an RBI as Albert Gallatin defeated visiting Steel Valley, 4-0, in a non-section baseball game Saturday to give Tony Watson his first win as coach of the Colonials.

Sutton walked just one and struck out four.

“The kids came in loose and prepared and put together a nice win,” Watson said. “It really helped boost the confidence of our younger guys.”

Albert Gallatin (1-7) got the only run it would need in the first inning when Evan Weakland singled, stole second, went to third on Sutton’s hit and scored on a ground out by Kayden Perez for the first of his two RBIs.

Weakland also started off AG’s three-run rally in the third inning with a lead-off walk and again stole second. He came around to score on Sutton’s single to make it 2-0. Kaiden Brady and Perez made it three singles in a row for AG with the latter hit bringing in Brady to make it 3-0.

Ben Lilley drove in Perez with a grounder for a 4-0 advantage and reached base himself when the ball was misplayed for an error.

“Sutton’s hit in the third inning came at a good time and he also was outstanding on the hill,” Watson said.

Imannuel Owens had two hits for the Ironmen (4-5). Robert Siegel took the loss.
