Local roundup: Tharp dominates in Lady Pioneers’ 60-41 win at Bishop Canevin

Kendra Tharp rang up 16 points and 20 rebounds in a dominating performance to help West Greene knock off host Bishop Canevin, 60-41, in a Section 2-A girls basketball clash on Monday night.

The win keeps West Greene (4-1, 9-2) one game in back of section frontrunners Serra Catholic and Geibel Catholic.

The Lady Crusaders (2-3, 3-7) held an 11-10 advantage after the first quarter but the Lady Pioneers surged to leads of 28-25 at halftime and 41-34 after three before pulling away in the fourth.

Jillissa Yeater added 14 points for West Greene, which also got 13 points from Madelyn Roberts.

Isabella Sysak had a game-high 19 points for Bishop Canevin and Kya Cooley chipped in with 15 points.

Geibel Catholic 79, Mapletown 11 — Emma Larkin and Mallory Clemmer combined for 53 points as the Lady Gators remained undefeated with a Section 2-A win at Mapletown.

Larkin led with 27 points and Clemmer followed close behind with 26 for Geibel (5-0, 12-0).

The Lady Gators rolled to a 27-5 lead in the first quarter and never looked back.

McKenna Lotspeich had five points for the Lady Maples (0-5, 1-12).

Belle Vernon 58, Laurel Highlands 26 — Lyla McConnell tossed in 20 points as the host Lady Leopards bounded past the Lady Mustangs in a Section 3-4A game.

Belle Vernon (4-1, 8-3) took a 16-2 lead in the first quarter and pulled away from there.

Emerson LaCarte chipped in with 11 points, including three 3-pointers, for the Lady Leopards, who also got 14 rebounds from Isis Almyty, six rebounds, three blocks and three steals from Aubrey Brown, and six boards and five steals from Saylor Lee.

Taylor Schwertfeger topped LH (1-4, 3-9) in scoring with nine points.

California 50, Bentworth 25 — Hayley Gibson tallied 21 points in the Lady Trojans’ Section 3-2A win at Bentworth.

California took a 22-6 lead in the first quarter and led 38-9 at halftime.

Lila Mitchell added 13 points for the Lady Trojans (2-1, 5-6).

Bella Moyer made three 3-pointers in scoring 13 points for the Lady Bearcats (2-1, 6-5).

Beth-Center 43, Carmichaels 15 — Violet Trump turned in a double-double with 14 points and 14 rebounds at the visiting Lady Bulldogs romped over the Lady Mikes in a Section 3-2A game.

Beth-Center led 13-2 after one quarter and was up 32-4 at halftime.

Alexia Fischer contributed 13 points and seven rebounds for the Lady Bulldogs (2-1, 5-7), who also got 13 boards from Kyleigh McDaniel.

Ke’Lani Chun had nine points for Carmichaels (0-3, 1-10).

Upper St. Clair 59, Connellsville 52 — The Lady Panthers erased a seven-point halftime deficit by out-scoring the host Lady Falcons 47-33 in the second half to earn a Section 2-6A victory.

Kat Polstyanko paced Upper St. Clair (1-2, 4-7) with a game-high 27 points and Caroline Barnard had 10 points.

Saige Mickens led the way for Connellsville (0-3, 4-9) with 20 points and Maggie Orndorff added 14 points.

Baldwin 65, Uniontown 29 — Lynsey Bernotas scored 17 points and Jules Ott followed with 16 as the first-place Lady Highlanders defeated the host Lady Raiders in a Section 4-5A game for their 10th consecutive win.

Baldwin (4-0, 10-1) led 17-12, 37-26 and 49-36 during the quarter breaks.

Jacey Klingensmith contributed 11 points for Baldwin.

Aierra Jenkins racked up a game high 25 points for Uniontown (1-2, 7-4) and Lyric McLee added seven points.

Waynesburg Central 57, McGuffey 47 — The host Lady Raiders gradually pulled away from McGuffey for a Section 3-3A victory to move into a second-place tie with the Lady Highlanders.

Waynesburg (3-1, 10-1) led 18-15, 26-22 and 46-38 at the quarter breaks.

Peyton Cowell topped the Lady Raiders in scoring with 16 points, Chatham Knight followed five 3-pointers for 15 points, and Emma Blair contributed 11 points.

Lucy Weiss scored 14 points for McGuffey (3-1, 7-6), which also got 10 points from Maura Janovich.

Mount Pleasant 52, Southmoreland 30 — Ryleigh Drzal tossed in 19 points as the Lady Vikings triumphed over the visiting Lady Scotties in a Section 3-4A game.

Grace Arrigo scored 13 points for Mount Pleasant (3-2, 6-6).

Ashley Seder paced Southmoreland (0-5, 1-12).

The score was tied 8-8 after one quarter before the Lady Vikings took control with a 22-4 advantage in the second to lead 30-12 at halftime.

Keystone Oaks 70, Brownsville 34 — Hannah York sank five 3-pointers in scoring 23 points and Natalie Tortorella followed with 19 points as the Golden Eagles topped the host Lady Falcons in a Section 3-3A game.

Keystone Oaks (2-2, 6-4) led 25-6, 40-18 and 57-26 at the quarter breaks.

Nina DeWeese had 13 points for the Golden Eagles.

Ava Clark led the way for Brownsville (0-5, 2-9).

Chartiers-Houston 57, Jefferson-Morgan 20 — Hannah Russell tossed in 15 points in the first-place Lady Buccaneers’ Section 3-2A victory over the visiting Lady Rockets.

Ava Kolovich added 12 points for C-H (3-0, 10-1).

Beautiful Medlen was the leading scorer for J-M (0-3, 5-6) with nine points.

Riverview 69, Frazier 25 — Isabel Chaparro poured in 34 points as the Lady Raiders beat the host Lady Commodores in a Section 4-2A game.

Blake Huffman followed with 14 points for Riverview (2-0, 5-2), which also got 10 points from Mia Murphy.

Allie Yauch led the way for Frazier (1-1, 4-5) with nine points.

Peters Township 57, Albert Gallatin 13 — Bri Morreale scored 18 points and the Lady Indians held the host Lady Colonials scoreless in the first half on the way to a Section 4-5A victory.

Taylor McCullough added 10 points for Peters Township (1-3, 6-6) which led 21-0 after the first quarter and 36-0 at intermission.

Mikayla Shea and Ellie Seese each tallied five points for AG (0-5, 0-10).
