Red Raiders start off Florida trip with win

Uniontown began its trip to Florida for the KSA Pre-Holiday Tournament with a 71-56 victory over Milken Community School in boys basketball action Wednesday.

Isaac Ellsworth hit four 3-pointers and was six-for-six from the foul line in scoring a game-high 24 points for the Red Raiders (6-1), who also got 17 points from Notorious Grooms and 15 from Calvin Winfrey III.

Uniontown jumped out to a 24-9 lead in the opening quarter and stayed in control the rest of the way.

Javaheri Ashton led Milken with 19 points.

The Red Raiders are back in action early Thursday with an 8 a.m. game against WPIAL foe McGuffey.

Chartiers-Houston 69, Waynesburg Central 57 – Nate Gregory scored 23 points as the Bucs’ held off the host Raiders for a non-section win.

Justin Buckingham added 16 for C-H (6-1).

Chartiers-Houston led 16-14, 36-25 and 49-42 at the quarter breaks.

Alex Eck had 18 points and 16 rebounds for Waynesburg (0-7) which also got 17 points and three assists from Dane Woods.

Imani Christian 80, Connellsville 32 – Keishaun Demus and DeSean Gordan scored 18 and 17 points as Imani Christian rolled past the visiting Falcons in a Section 2-AAAAAA game.

Tyler Burkus led Connellsville (0-3, 2-5) with 10 points.

Deston Hubbard added 13 for Imani (3-0, 5-0).

West Greene 60, Hundred 41 – Lane Allison poured in a game-high 29 points as the Pioneers cruised past host Hundred in a non-section game.

Parker Burns added 13 points and Patrick Durbin chipped in with 12 for West Greene (4-2) which led 16-13, 29-20 and 49-31 at the quarter breaks.

Braden Barteg tallied 17 points for Hundred (1-2).

Girls basketball

Waynesburg Central 40, Washington 33 – Avery Davis tossed in 17 points and the Lady Raiders jumped out to an 11-1 lead in the first quarter on their way to a Section 3-AAA win at Washington.

Peyton Cowell followed with nine points for Waynesburg (2-0, 4-2) which also got eight points from Mya Smith.

Olivia Woods had a game-high 23 points for the Lady Prexies (1-2, 3-5).

Boys wrestling

Bentworth 35, Jefferson-Morgan 33 — The Bearcats won five straight matches to edge the Rockets in Class 2A Section 3 action.

Paxton Thomas (152), Owen Ivcic (160) and Race Litster (172) recorded three straight pins, Brayden Taggart (189) earned a technical fall and Abe House (215) won by decision.

Jefferson-Morgan’s Landon Heath edged Alex Rusilko in sudden victory, 4-1, at 285.

The Rockets’ won four straight matches by fall as Brayden Hanning (107), Caleb Dulaney (114), Connor Pinchok (121) and E.J. Lingenfield (127) before Bentworth’s Drake McClure received a forfeit at 133.

The Bearcats’ Bryce Crowson won by decision, 8-5, at 139 before J-M’s Johnny Gilbert won by fall in 39 seconds at 145.

Frazier 52, Brownsville 12 — The Commodores won three bouts by fall and received four forfeits in a Class 2A Section 3 victory over the Falcons.

Cooper McMasters (133), Chase Celaschi (145) and Conner Reams (285) recorded a pin, and Emmett Erdely (139), Jonah Erdely (152), Andrew Bandish (160) and Jackson Angelo (172) won by forfeit.

Ethen Dye and Link Liberty won by technical fall for Frazier at 114 and 121.

Brownsville’s Devin Drake earned a fall in 1:30 at 189. Teammate Maddox Cooper won by forfeit at 127.

The Commodores improved to 1-1 in section play and 4-3 overall.

Beth-Center 40, Yough 32 — The Bulldogs won two bouts by fall and benefited from three forfeits in a non-section victory.

Mason Wright (133) and Noah Layhue (189) won by fall, while teammates Alex Medlen (114) and Malachi Peak (215) recorded technical falls.

Geoffrey Douglas (107), Maddison Chisler (127) and Jaslyn Debnar (133) received forfeits for Beth-Center (1-0, 3-6).

Thomas Jefferson 47, Belle Vernon 25 — The Leopards’ Colby Hibner, Kole Doppelheuer and Elijah Brown won by fall in a Class 3A Section 7 setback to the Jaguars.

Belle Vernon’s Deydon Soto earned a 12-1 major decision at 139, and Leonidas Soto edged Dominic Costa, 6-5, at 127.

Mount Pleasant 30, New Castle 24 — The Vikings’ Nick Morell, Tristan Wtorkiewicz (145), Stephen Predajna (172) and Zach Dill (189) won by fall in a non-section victory.

Mount Pleasant’s Gage Marker won by forfeit at 215.
