Carmichaels鈥 Dominic Colarusso (1) fires a 3-pointer in the first quarter of the King Coal Lions Club Christmas Tournament championship game on Dec. 28, 2022, against Jefferson-Morgan at Carmichaels.

The Carmichaels basketball team will be looking to improve this season with an experienced group of senior players.

The Mikes went 12-11 overall last year.

“I’d like to see us compete to our highest potential,” coach Ian McCombs said. “I’d like to see us grow and improve throughout the season. In a tough section, I’d like to make the playoffs and keep it going as long as we can.”

He added that the section should be “competitive.”

Carmichaels will look to seniors Dominic Colarusso, Aydan Adamson, Liam Lohr and Ambrose Adamson; juniors Colin Andrews, Harley Stoneking, Robbie Wilson-Jones, Dayton Reynolds and Carson Hillsman; Cooper Richards, Brayden Andrews and Parker Jones; and freshmen Scott Maskil, Chase Ankrom, Rhythm Caffrey-Bauman, Steven Lewis and Alex Toth.

McCombs said the team weaknesses are height and size, while the strengths are defense, shooting and team chemistry.

McCombs said of his seniors,路”Dominic Colarusso, He’s a point guard who makes things happen for us offensively. He is a competitor and that is contagious.

“Aydan Adamson comes to battle on the boards every night. He won’t back down and adds to the toughness on the team.

“Liam Lohr is an athletic, skilled player with the ability to play the ‘X’ factor in any game.

“Ambrose Adamson is smart and knows where to be and why. He plays great help defense and holds himself and his teammates accountable.”

McCombs listed specific reasons for wanting to coach the Mikes.

“I would say it’s a combination of coaching is in my family and I love the game of basketball,” McCombs said.

The Mikes will again compete in Section 4-AA with Bentworth, Beth-Center, Burgettstown, Chartiers-Houston, Fort Cherry and Frazier.

Carmichaels’ non-section schedule includes games against Waynesburg Central, McGuffey, California, Monessen and Geibel Catholic..
