Local roundup: Falcons snap 42-game losing streak with 55-51 win
The last win for the Connellsville boys happened nearly two years ago, but the Falcons snapped the winless streak Thursday afternoon with a 55-51 victory over Mount Pleasant in the Greensburg Salem Holiday Tournament.
Connellsville’s victory snaps a 42-game losing streak. The Falcons’ last win was against Ringgold, 62-61, on Jan. 4. 2022.
Connellsville (1-8) led 12-6 after the first quarter, but the Vikings surged into a 28-22 halftime lead.
The Falcons drew to within a point, 49-48, heading into the fourth quarter and secured the win with a 17-12 advantage in the final eight minutes.
Jayden Mickens and Jayden McBride shared scoring honors for the Falcons with 13 points apiece. Kace Shearer added 12 points.
Mount Pleasant’s Dante Giallonardo scored a game-high 25 points.
Girls basketball
Albert Gallatin 45, Bridgeport, W.Va. 29 – Grayce Panos scored a game-high 18 points to lead Albert Gallatin to a victory over Bridgeport (W.Va.) in the opening day of the Christmas at the Corral held at Laurel Highlands.
The Lady Colonials led 20-17 at halftime and then pulled away for a 31-19 lead after the third quarter.
Mya Glisan scored 13 points for Albert Gallatin and Mitchell Turner added seven.
Jaylin Dodd led Bridgeport with 12 points.
Beth-Center 59, Charleroi 48 – The Lady Cougars’ Bella Carroto scored a game-high 24 points and the Lady Bulldogs held off a second half rally for a win in the Christmas at the Corral tournament.
Beth-Center led 14-10 after the first quarter and 33-17 at halftime. Charleroi cut the deficit to 42-31 after three quarters.
Emma Shashura paced Beth-Center with 22 points. KJ McDaniel scored 11 points and Lauren Brown added 10.
Charleroi’s Riley Jones finished with 11 points.
