Local basketball roundup: Dade scores 28 as Uniontown tops Lady Trojans

A’Kira Dade poured in a game-high 28 points, including a 13-of-16 performance for the foul line, to help lift Uniontown over visiting California, 54-46, in non-section girls basketball action Wednesday.

The Lady Raiders (6-13) tralied 12-6, 19-15 and 36-33 at the quarter breaks but outscored the Lady Trojans 21-10 in the final frame to pull out the victory.

Geelece Ingram added 12 points for Uniontown which also got 10 points from Emily Myers.

Rakiyah Porter led California (8-10) with 19 points and Hayley Gibson followed close behind with 18.

Boys basketball

Waynesburg Central 48, West Greene 37 – Alex Vansickle scored 16 points as the Raiders earned a non-section win over the visiting Pioneers.

Dane Woods grabbed seven rebounds and Cole Headlee had four assists for Waynesburg (6-12).

Lane Allison tied for game-high honors with 16 points for West Greene (11-6), which also got 14 points from Parker Burns.

Peters Township 84, Ringgold 41 – Jack Dunbar scored 20 points as the Indians beat the visiting Rams in a Section 1-AAAAA game.

Peters Township (5-2, 13-5) also got 14 points apiece from Sean Thelk and Dylan Donavan and 11 points from Cam Mills.

Szyair Dungee led Ringgold (0-8, 3-16) with three 3-pointers and 15 points and Daryl Tolliver added 10 points.

Men’s basketball

California 88, Edinboro 73 – K.J. McClurg scored 22 points and grabbed eight rebounds, and 17th-ranked California ran its winning streak to five games with a PSAC West victory over Edinboro at the Convocation Center.

McClurg scored 14 of his points in the first half when california (12-2, 18-2) forged a 48-40 advantage. The Vulcans steadily pulled away in the second half.

It was the fourth game for the Vulcans in eight days.

Donald Whitehead Jr. scored 17 points, Zyan Collins had 15 and Keith Palek tossed in 14 to give Cal four players in double figures.

Women’s basketball

Edinboro 57, California 51 – Hayley Sims scored a game-high 25 points and made a go-ahead 3-point shot with 1:27 remaining, sparking Edinboro to a PSAC West win over host California.

The loss is the second straight for Cal (9-5, 14-6) as Edinboro (9-5, 11-8) moved into a tie with the Vulcans in the standings.

Edinboro led by four points midway through the fourth quarter but California battled back and took a 51-50 lead. Sims’ 3-pointer pushed Edinboro in front for good at 53-51. Sims and Ashton Boggs (15 points) each added two free throws down the stretch.

Cal didn’t make a field goal in the game’s final 2:42.

Dejah Terrell led the Vuclans with 22 points and 10 rebounds. She had 17 of her points in the first half. Allycia Harris scored 11 points.

Geneva 77, Waynesburg 52 – Geneva pulled away with a 22-5 run in the first half and went on to defeat visiting Waynesburg in a PAC game.

Kayla Howard led Waynesburg (3-12, 4-16) in scoring with nine points.
