Mustangs edge Falcons in boys soccer, 4-3
Laurel Highlands got one goal from four different players in recording a 4-3 victory over host Connellsville in non-section boys soccer action Monday night.
Cole Radcliffe and Jackson Nairn each had a goal and an assist for the Mustangs (7-3) who also got one goal apiece from Matt Kolencik and Roman George.
Radcliffe leads the team with 25 goals in 10 matches.
LH goalkeeper Dan O’Neal came up with nine saves.
The Falcons’ Dylan Shallenberger, William Gillott and Tyler Burkus each scored a goal.
Connellsville fell to 2-9-1.
Uniontown 4, Albert Gallatin 1 — The Red Raiders scored the final three goals to earn a non-section victory over the Colonials at Albert Gallatin Stadium.
Uniontown (3-7-0) opened the scoring in the first half on Braylon Woods’ goal for a 1-0 lead. Albert Gallatin (1-9-0) tied the match on a corner kick before Ty Harvey scored the game-winning goal for a 2-1 advantage that the visitors held at halftime.
The Red Raiders’ Ethan Roebuck and Ryan Sinal found the back of the net in the second half for a three-goal lead.
Uniontown’s Noah Holland and Lucas Mihalko combined to stop nine shots on target.
Belle Vernon 2, Ringgold 1 — Chris Showman’s free kick from 30 yards out found its way into the net to give the visiting Leopards an overtime victory over the Rams in a non-section match.
Belle Vernon (6-5-1) took a 1-0 lead with 6:40 left in the first half on a goal by Landon Bell that was assisted by Showman.
Ringgold (4-5) tied it in the final minute of regulation on a goal by Michael Stasko to force overtime.
Morgan Bunch made nine saves for the Leopards.
Hempfield 4, Southmoreland 0 — Braden Crowe scored two goals as the Spartans (3-7) beat the visiting Scotties (4-6) in a non-section match.
Girls soccer
Albert Gallatin 4, Uniontown 2 — The Lady Colonials earned a Section 3-3A victory over the Lady Red Raiders at Albert Gallatin Stadium.
Albert Gallatin’s Caileigh Theodori beat the Uniontown defense while staying onside for the opening goal in the first half. Paige Kennedy set-up Isabella DeHaven for the Lady Colonials’ second tally before Quinn Shivey found the back of the net after receiving a pass from Bailey Guty.
DeHaven used a header to record a brace in the second half.
Maddie Klink earned the win in goal for the home team.
The Lady Colonials (2-4-0, 2-7-0) celebrated their six seniors, Bailey Chetosky, Rylan Fike, Jade McCormick, Lena Lerew, Emily Pennington and Zofia Radosevich.
Mount Pleasant 1, Shady Side Academy 0 — Izzy Overly knocked in the only goal of the match off a corner kick by Morgan Gesinski in the first half and the Lady Vikings hung on from there for a non-section victory over the Lady Bulldogs (3-6).
Laurel Rummel recorded the shutout for Mount Pleasant (8-2-1).
Belle Vernon 3, Steel Valley 1 — Courtney Martin broke a 1-1 tie with a pair of goals in the second half to lead the host Lady Leopards past Steel Valley (1-5, 1-7) in a Section 1-2A match.
Abby Russell scored a goal for Belle Vernon (5-1-1, 7-2-1) in the first half on an assist from Jordyn McDowel. Assisting on Martin’s two goals were Payton Walsh and Laila Kruppa.
The Lady Leopards, thanks in large part to Martin, Russell, Kruppa and Saylor Lee, held a huge advantage in time of possession during the match to help pave the way for the win.
Rory Bastedo and Skylar Salay split goalkeeper duties for Belle Vernon.
Hempfield 4, Southmoreland 1 — Jiana Patterson had two goals as the Lady Spartans (2-9) triumphed over the host Lady Scotties (3-6-1) in a nonsection match.
Latrobe 8, Connellsville 1 — Annalyse Bauer led with four goals, Emerson Shine followed with two and Geli Dent and Jenny Hegedus added a goal apiece to lead Latrobe (4-5) to a non-section win over Connellsville (3-6-1).
Girls volleyball
Waynesburg Central 3, Frazier 0 — Ani Cree rang up 18 kills, six digs, two blocks and two aces as the host Lady Raiders fended off the Lady Commodores (6-3) in a closely fought non-section match.
Scores were 25-22, 28-26 and 26-24.
Railey Bochna totaled eight kills, nine digs and two aces, Harper Grimes contributed six kills, three blocks, three digs and two aces and Emily Rafferty had six kills and 12 digs for Waynesburg (9-0) which also got 18 assists and two digs from Gina Tedrow, 11 digs from Lelia McCollum and 12 assists and two digs from Chatham Knight.
Belle Vernon 3, Albert Gallatin 0 — Aubrey Brown registered seven kills and five service points in the Lady Leopards’ Section 3-3A win over the Lady Colonials.
Scores were 25-14, 27-25 and 25-18.
Victoria Alexander, Mia Roebuck and Mallory Wasicek had six kills apiece and Lyla Teets had four kills for Belle Vernon (6-2) which also got 25 assists from Abby Nickolls, 12 digs from Joy Johnson and nine digs from Alexa Gray.
Gabby Penrose had six kills and Paityn Goletz totaled five assists, three digs, three aces and two kills for Albert Gallatin (0-6, 1-7) which also got eight digs from both Mikayla Shea and Gabby DeLorenzo and five assists and four digs from Riylee Abel.
Geibel Catholic 3, Turkeyfoot Valley 0 — Mallory Clemmer racked up seven kills, 13 digs and eight aces in the Lady Gators’ non-section win over the Lady Rams (0-7).
Game scores were 25-16, 25-19 and 25-11.
Nolace Petrosky had 11 kills for Geibel (2-8).
Fort Cherry 3, Mapletown 0 — The Lady Rangers (6-2) rolled to a non-section victory over the host Lady Maples (3-6).
Scores were 25-14, 25-11 and 25-15.
Greensburg Salem 3, Laurel Highlands 0 — Grace Hayden had nine kills in the unbeaten Lady Lions’ non-section win over the Lady Mustangs.
Belle Dinkel chipped in with 25 assists for Greensburg Salem (8-0).
Diondra Brown led Laurel Highlands (5-3) with eight kills and five blocks and Sara Reed added 21 digs and 14 assists.
Boys golf
Jefferson-Morgan 209, Albert Gallatin 236 — Urijah Teasdale took medalist honors with 36 in the Rockets’ non-section win over the Colonials.
Miles Sowden and Dom Sowden each shot 40 for J-M with Trent Sowden (46) and Brayden Ellsworth (47) rounding out the scoring.
Garrett Snyder topped Albert Gallatin (3-10) in scoring with a 42 and was followed by Tyler Felio (43), Clay Smith (48), Colton Chipps (50) and Gianni Paoli (53).
Girls tennis
Mount Pleasant 5, Valley 0 — The Lady Vikings repeated as Section 1-2A champions with a sweep of Valley.
Singles winners for Mount Pleasant were Bella Fullman, Ryleigh Drzal and Autumn Jurkovic-Kuzma. Doubles winners were Megan Bullock and Danica Trainer, and Hannah Shawley and Chloe Zelmore.
