Waynesburg Central earns two victories in Section 6-2A

Waynesburg Central won nine individual events and two relays to earn two Section 6-2A track & field victories on Tuesday at Trojan Stadium on the campus of California Area High School in Coal Center.

The Raiders defeated the Trojans, 94-56, and Beth-Center, 101-47. California topped Bentworth, 103-44, and the Bearcats edged the Bulldogs, 68-66.

The Raiders’ Nate Ricciuti was a triple-winner with victories in the 110 and 300-meter hurdles in times of 15.07 and 43.59. The freshman topped the field in the long jump with a leap of 19-3.5.

Waynesburg won six of the seven field events, as Hudson Bennett won the triple jump (37-0) and Jackson Brunell the pole vault (11-6).

The Raiders’ Duncan Barto (shot put/41-6), Caden Fowler (discus/128-11) and Andy Mahle (javelin/150-11) dominated the throwing events.

Waynesburg’s Mason Loughner won the 800-meter run in 2:23.53.

The Raiders won the 1,600 and 3,200 relays in 3:51.77 and 9:46.17.

Beth-Center’s Deakyn DeHoet, who attends school at Jefferson-Morgan but competes for the Bulldogs as part of a co-op, won the 100-meter dash in 10.62 and the 200 in 22.10. He also helped Beth-Center to a victory in the 400 relay with a time of 45.69.

California’s Aiden Keyes prevented a Waynesburg sweep in the field events, as he won the high jump at 5-8.

The Trojans’ Carter Kent won the 1,600 in 4:56.47. Teammate Benjamin Ziolecki topped the field in the 400 with a time of 56.47.

The Bulldogs’ Brandon Remington won the 3,200 in 11:10.30.

GIRLS: CALIFORNIA 79, WAYNESBURG CENTRAL 71; CALIFORNIA 80, BENTWORTH 66; WAYNESBURG CENTRAL 102, BETH-CENTER 46; BENTWORTH 102, BETH-CENTER 34 — The Lady Trojans won six of seven field events to edge the Lady Raiders and Lady Bearcats in Section 6-2A action at Trojan Stadium.

California swept the throwing events, as Peyton Sunderman (discus/75-3), Hayley Gibson (shot put/31-5) and Addison Frank (javelin/87-2) topped the field.

Frank proved she is a well-rounded athlete, as she won the triple jump in 31-0.25. The Lady Trojans’ Lila Mitchell cleared 4-6 to earn a victory in the high jump. Morgan Ross, who also won the 200-meter dash (28.76), won the long jump with a leap of 14-10.

Waynesburg’s Madison Blair stopped California’s run in the field events with a victory in the pole vault (6-0).

The Lady Trojans won the 400 and 1,600 relays in times of 53.76 and 4:50.36. Bentworth topped the field in the 3,200 with a time of 11:59.29.

The Lady Bearcats dominated the track events from the 400-meter dash and up, as Savannah Clark sprinted around the track at Trojan Stadium in 1:10.61.

Jesse Laskey won the 800 and 1,600 in 2:50.46 and 6:23.65. Delilah Luketich crossed the finish line first in the 3,200 in 13:43.81.

Megan Keturakis won the 100 and 300 hurdles in 17.56 and 52.52.

The Lady Bulldogs’ Lydia Hrin won the 100-meter dash in a time of 13.31.

BOYS: BROWNSVILLE 98, CHARLEROI 39; BROWNSVILLE 113, WEST GREENE 22 — The Falcons swept the relays and throwing events to down the Cougars and Pioneers in Section 6-2A play at Myron Pottios Stadium on the campus of Charleroi Area High School.

Brownsville (4-1) won the 400, 1,600 and 3,200 relays in times of 47.84, 3:55.82 and 9:42.05.

The Falcons’ 400-relay team consisted of Silas Patterson, Cam Phillips, Daeron Clayton and Defontay Matan. Patterson and Phillips were joined by Levi Grogan and Braiden Scheitlin in the 1,600 relay. The quartet of Willard Biddle, Owen Shimshock, Geoffrey Douglas and Chase Beck won the 3,200 relay.

Eli Booker won the shot put (34-1) and discus (119), and Kody Gates topped the field in the javelin (110-11).

Grogan won the 100-meter dash in 11.33. Teammate Camden Wellington won the 200 in 23.72. Beck crossed the finish line first in the 800 with a time of 2:26.64.

West Greene’s Joel Grimes won the 1,600 and 3,200 in 5:08 and 11:39.65.

The pole vault was not contested.

GIRLS: BROWNSVILLE 99, WEST GREENE 26; BROWNSVILLE 99, CHARLEROI 16 — The Lady Falcons won 12 of 15 events for a Section 6-2A sweep over the Lady Cougars and Lady Pioneers in Section 6-2A action at Myron Pottios Stadium on the campus of Charleroi Area High School.

West Greene’s Eryka Hackney continued her strong start to the season in sweeping the sprints. Hackney won the 100-meter dash in 13.25, the 200 in 27.40 and the 400 in 1:04.62. Teammate Ella Courtwright won the 800-meter run in 3:05.89.

Brownsville (4-1) won the 400 and 1,600 relays in times of 52.77 and 5:20.21. Amya Wilson, Aijanae Foster, Ta’Veonna Harris and Jersey Feick-White joined forces to win the 400 relay, while Feick-White and Wilson teamed with Ni’Jaie Jordan and Gloria Kovscek to form the quartet in the 1,600 relay.

Foster won the high jump in 5-4 and the 100-meter hurdles in 16.57, and Wilson finished first in the long jump (15-5). Caitlin Miske soared 29-1 through the air for a victory in the triple jump.

Kovscek won the 300 hurdles in 1:01.21.

The Lady Falcons’ Angel Buddemeyer won the 1,600 and 3,200 in 7:28.23 and 18:40.20.

Brownsville’s Alexa Lewandowsky (discus/109-2), Elizabeth McCune (javelin/83-6) and Jaminah Vincent (shot put/29-0) swept the throwing events.

The 3,200 relay and the pole vault weren’t contested.
