West Greene’s Hackney sweeps the sprints at Section 6-2A invite
There were plenty of double champions on Wednesday in the Section 6-2A championship at Trojan Stadium on the campus of California Area High School in Coal Center, but no one was able to surpass West Greene’s Eryka Hackney, who swept the sprints in the girls races.
Hackney, a senior, won the 100, 200 and 400-meter dashes in 12.90, 26.27 and 1:03.79.
Brownsville’s Aijanae Foster was a double gold medalist in the 100 hurdles (16.70) and high jump (5-2). Bentworth’s Jesse Laskey won the 800 and 1,600 in times of 2:46.40 and 6:14.93. Teammate Delilah Luketich won the 3,200 in 13:48.17.
The host school had three winners in the field events, as Lila Mitchell (TJ/31-11), Morgan Ross (LJ/15-7) and Hayley Gibson (SP/31-7) topped the competition.
Brownsville’s Alexa Lewandowsky won the discus with a throw of 105-2. The Lady Falcons also won the 400 relay in 52.92.

Waynesburg Central’s Madison Blair continued the school’s tradition of strong pole vaulters in winning the event with a leap of 8-7.
Bentworth’s Elizabeth Wade threw the javelin 100 feet for the win. Teammate Megan Keturakis won the 300 hurdles in 51.68.
The Raiders’ Caden Fowler and Nate Ricciuti each won two individual events, as Fowler topped the field in the discus (130-2) and shot put (42-10), and Ricciuti swept the 110 and 300 hurdles in times of 14.62 and 42.62.
The Trojans’ Carter Kent sent the home crowd into a frenzy with victories in the 800 and 1,600. Kent won the 800 in 2:09.25 and the 1,600 in 4:46.73.
Beth-Center’s Deakyn DeHoet sped past the competition in the 100 and 200 with times of 10.92 and 22.75. DeHoet attends school at Jefferson-Morgan but competes for the Bulldogs as part of a co-op because the Rockets don’t field a track & field team. Teammate Daniel Duncan won the long jump (21-1).
Waynesburg’s Mason Schroyer proved his school’s success in pole vault is not limited to the girls in winning the event in 13-1. The Raiders’ Jack Ricciuti won the high jump in 6-0.50 and Hudson Bennett took the title in the triple jump (37-10.25).
