California tops Baldwin in Section 2 play

California’s rushing attack and defense led the Trojans to a 26-6 victory over Baldwin in Section 2 flag football play on Wednesday at Trojan Stadium in Coal Center.

California sophomore Addie Day led her team in rushing with over 80 yards and a touchdown.

Ninth grader Meadow Meier threw touchdown passes to fellow freshmen Aubrey Cellurale and Lila Mitchell.

Cellurale and sophomore Kylie Johnson had converted on extra points.

Junior Hayley Gibson’s pressure up front forced the Highlanders to throw two interceptions, as Mitchell picked off a pair of passes, including one that was returned for a touchdown.

Meier and sophomore Bella Smith had multiple tackles at the line of scrimmage.

The Trojans improved to 4-5 in section and overall play, while Baldwin dropped to 2-8 in division and exhibition action.

SOUTH ALLEGHENY 41, UNIONTOWN 34 — The Red Raiders rallied in the fourth quarter, but the Gladiators held on for a Section 2 triumph at Bill Power Stadium.

South Allegheny (4-5, 4-6) had a 34-22 lead after three quarters before Uniontown (4-5, 4-5) outscored the visitors, 12-7, in the final period.

The Gladiators had a 12-8 advantage after the first quarter and a 20-14 lead after the second. South Allegheny outscored the home team, 14-8, in the third.

Lyric McLee led the Red Raiders in passing and rushing, as she was 17 of 28 for 122 yards and two touchdowns, and had 203 yards on 15 carries with three touchdowns and a two-point conversion.

Teammate Imari Wilson had four rushes for 75 yards.

Uniontown’s Lannie Uluilakeba pulled in two receptions for 44 yards. Aubree Long caught three passes for 62 yards and a touchdown. Kaleeya Tyler pulled in a 48-yard touchdown reception.

Wilson contributed with four catches for 43 yards and a two-point conversion.

Tyler led the Red Raiders in tackles with 10. She had two pass breakups. A’zhiya Belt added six tackles and two pass breakups.

Long had an interception, seven tackles and two pass breakups. McLee picked off a pass, made five tackles and had a pass breakup.
