Raiders edge Mikes in section showdown
Cole Headlee earned medalist honors and put Waynesburg Central in position to earn a 215-217 victory over Carmichaels on Thursday in Section 3-2A boys golf action at Carmichaels Golf Club.
Headlee, who was the Raiders’ No. 2 starter, made birdie putts on the second, sixth and seventh holes, and made par on the third, fifth and ninth holes to finish at two-over par with a round of 39 on the front nine. The Mikes’ Eli Hastings and the Raiders’ Jarett Tretnik each carded a round of 40 at No. 1.
Headlee put his team in a good spot with his score, as Waynesburg had an eight-stroke edge heading into the third starters.
Connor Lapana’s 42 pulled Carmichaels within three strokes, but the Raiders’ Rykan Gustafson shot a 42 to put his squad back in front by seven strokes.
The Mikes’ Anthony Post fired a 42 to cut the deficit to two, but Waynesburg was able to hang on for the victory.
The Raiders’ Matt Eisiminger and Lucas Slifko each shot a round of 47.
Chase Ankrom (46) and Jayden Kerley (47) rounded out the scoring for Carmichaels.
Waynesburg improved to 3-1 in section play and 4-1 overall. The Mikes fell to 2-1 in league and overall competitions.
CONNELLSVILLE 211, ALBERT GALLATIN 230 — Freshman Braydon Rockwell led the way for the Falcons in a Section 2-3A victory at Pleasant Valley Golf Club.
Rockwell birdied the par 5 seventh hole and made pars on the first, second, fourth, fifth, sixth and ninth holes to finish with a two-over-par 37 on the front nine.
Teammate Wade Bryner was two strokes behind after recording a birdie putt on the eighth and making putts for par on the third, fourth, sixth and nine holes.
Hunter Hughes came in with a 43 for Connellsville (2-2, 2-3). Teammates Santo Crucio (45) and Owen Show (47) closed out the fourth and fifth scores.
Albert Gallatin (1-4, 1-4) was led in scoring by Gianni Paoli’s 41. Tyler Felio had 43 and Garrett Snyder carded a 45. Logan Diamond had a 50 and Cami Williams shot 51 for the Colonials.
BROWNSVILLE 243, BENTWORTH 310 — Ava Rohland was the medalist in the Falcons’ Section 3-2A triumph at Nemacolin Country Club.
Rohland made par on the second, third, sixth and seventh holes to finish with a six-over-par 44. Teammate Dom Capan had par successful par putts on the second, sixth and seventh holes in closing his round at 45.
Adam Vojaceck parred the third, fifth and seventh holes in carding a 49 for Brownsville (1-3, 1-3).
Cooper Cetera made par on the third and fourth holes and shot a 52. Hunter McDonald rounded out the Falcons’ scoring with a round of 53.
David Miller led the Bearcats (0-5, 0-5) in scoring at 56. Teammate Brayden Bozovich came in at 57.
Cooper Piasecki (61), Wyatt McClain (66) and Gavin Show (70) closed the scoring for Bentworth.
ELIZABETH FORWARD 191, UNIONTOWN 226 — The Warriors’ top five shot under 40 in a Section 2-3A victory on the front nine at Youghiogheny Country Club.
Elizabeth Forward’s Luke Boyer birdied the par 5 eighth hole, and made par putts on the first, second, third, fourth, fifth and ninth holes to shoot a one-over par 37 for medalist honors.
Teammate Julien Hredocik had a birdie on the third hole, and made par on the second, fourth, fifth, eighth and ninth holes to card a round of 38. EF’s Brody Gilmore also shot a 38. He didn’t record a birdie, but made par putts on seven holes.
Aaron Didjunas and Dom Donato each fired rounds of 39 while making one birdie a piece. Didjunas recorded his birdie with a three on No. 9 and Donato sunk his birdie putt on the par four sixth hole.
Uniontown’s Liam Glover tapped in for par on the second, third, fourth, sixth, seventh and ninth holes to close with a round of 40.
The Red Raiders’ Mason Payton made a birdie on the third hole, and had pars on the fourth and seventh holes to finish his nine holes with a 45. Teammate Elim Martin parred the third, fourth, seventh and eighth holes in carding a 45.
Katim Gilleland (48) and Jackson Opar (48) closed the scoring for Uniontown. Gilleland made four putts for par and Opar had two.
