Lady Falcons finish 3rd at Southwest Pa. Girls Invitational
Connellsville avenged an early-season loss to Trinity, and defeated Upper St. Clair twice for a third-place finish in the Southwest Pa. Girls Invitational on Wednesday at Washington & Jefferson College.
The Lady Falcons (8-4) edged the Lady Panthers, 39-36, in the quarterfinals before suffering a 44-30 setback to Mount Lebanon in the semifinals. Connellsville avenged a 42-33 loss to the Lady Hillers from Dec. 13 with a 35-33 triumph in the consolation semifinals before it earned a 38-30 victory over Upper St. Clair for the bronze.
The Lady Falcons’ Olivia Shultz (63-38) won three bouts by fall and received a forfeit to finish 4-0 in the 170-pound weight class. Teammate Ravyn Cameron-Botti (24-6) was also 4-0 with a decision, major decision, fall and forfeit. Cameron-Botti earned a 5-0 decision over the Lady Panthers at 235 in the opening dual meet. She received a forfeit against the Lady Blue Devils and pinned her opponent during Connellsville’s dual meet against Trinity.
Cameron-Botti won by major decision, 9-1, at 190 in the Lady Falcons’ second dual meet against Upper St. Clair.
Connellsville’s Juliet Flores (100), Alison Leon (106/112), Trinity Moore (118) and Emma Petrovich (130/136) won three of their four bouts.
The Lady Falcons will turn their attention to the individual portion of the season, as they are scheduled to compete in the WPIAL Individual Championship on Feb. 21 at Mount Lebanon High School.
