Lady Falcons top field in home tournament
Connellsville defended its home gymnasium in winning the Lady Falcon Invitational on Saturday at Connellsville Area High School.
The Lady Falcons earned 148.5 team points to top Plum (125.5) and Beth-Center (104.5).
Senior Trinity Moore won all four of her matches by fall for the championship in the 112-pound weight class.
Teammate Jayden Wiltrout had two falls and a 4-2 decision to win all her matches in a round-robin format at 148. Connellsville’s Julieth Flores planked both of her opponents in round-robin action at 100.
Southmoreland’s Rylee Mains (106) and Zoey Murphy (235) were 7-0 in their round-robin bouts, as Mains won three matches by fall and edged the Lady Falcons’ Alison Leon, 4-3.
Brownsville senior Alexa Lewandowsky won the title at 155 with a major decision in the semifinals and a pin in the final.
Beth-Center’s Bailey Bernot earned a fall in 3:34 for the championship at 170. She topped teammate Keiara Atkinson in the final.
The Lady Falcons’ Olivia Shultz (155) and Ravyn Cameron-Botti (190) finished second. The Lady Scotties’ Addison Jordan was the runner-up at 124.
The Lady Bulldogs’ Arabella Glatfelter (155) and Marsala Formentelli (190) came in third place following pins in the consolation finals.
Southmoreland’s Taylor Chambers was fourth at 118.
Lauren Porterfield (130), Alisa-Marie Yauger (142) and Jordyn Grimm (170) reached the podium for the home team in placing fifth.
Southmoreland’s Hailey Kenney was sixth at 170. Teammate Avah Geyer finished sixth at 136.
Beth-Center’s Lilly Taylor earned a spot on the podium in sixth place at 118.
