Uniontown Legion shuts down Smithfield-Fairchance

Eahn Stevenson drove in four runs, which was more than enough offense for Nick Fleszar in Uniontown Post 51’s victory over Smithfield-Fairchance on Monday in Fayette County American Legion baseball play at Hutchinson Field in Hopwood.

Fleszar didn’t allow a run on one hit over six innings. He struck out 11 and walked five in the home team’s 9-1 triumph. Jamesen Carter threw the final frame, and didn’t allow an earned run on three hits. Fleszar threw 106 pitches (64 strikes) and Carter 28 (19 strikes).

Stevenson was 2-for-3 with a two-run home run in the fifth inning, a run-scoring single in the sixth and walked with the bases loaded in the third to force in a run. He also scored two runs.

Teammate Sevi Vecchiolla drew a walk to force in a run in the third. He had two hits, including a double to left field in the fifth. Vecchiolla scored on Stevenson’s homer over the left-field fence.

Nick Crouch doubled to center field in the fourth inning. He scored a run and drew a base on balls for the home team.

Uniontown’s Parker Hoff drove in two runs and singled. Fleszar, Lane Smiley and Aiden Milsom each had a base hit. Noah Lion drew two walks, including one with the bases loaded for an RBI, and scored twice.

Jake Bellish, Kaiden Brady, Clay Smith and A.J. Watson each had a single for Smithfield-Fairchance (4-3-1).

Smith got the visitors on the scoreboard in the top of the seventh inning when he crossed home plate while Mason Usher reached first base safely on an error.

Uniontown improved to 5-3 and will host Carmichaels Post 400 today at 6 p.m. in a doubleheader.

BROWNSVILLE 15, CARMICHAELS 5 — Brownsville benefitted from big innings in a Fayette County American Legion victory at Carmichaels.

The visitors scored five runs in the third inning, and four in the fourth and seventh frames.

Nash Petroff was 2-for-4 with four RBIs and a run scored to pace the offense for Brownsville (2-5). His double to center field plated Jonah Dillinger and Johnathan Vasbinder in the seventh.

Petroff’s line drive to center field scored Dillinger and Jeremiah McDonald in the fourth inning.

Dillinger crossed home plate on Hunter McDonald’s single to center field in the sixth. McDonald had a run-scoring base hit in the third.

Brownsville’s Cooper Cetera had two hits, including a double, and one RBI.

Aiden Napolillo singled twice and scored three runs for the visitors.

Jeremiah McDonald earned the victory on the mound after allowing five runs (two earned) on six hits over five innings. He had one strikeout and walked three.

Benjamin Vojacek threw two innings without yielding a hit to close out the game. He didn’t record a strikeout and walked two.

Carmichaels’ Brayden Ellsworth hit a line drive to center field to score Ryder Krieg in the bottom of the third inning. Carson Vanata crossed home plate in the frame on a wild pitch. Krieg scored the game’s first run after Brody Bebout reached first base safely on an error in the first inning.

Ellsworth, Krieg, Vanata, Chase Ankrom, Scott Maskil Jr. and Chase Willis had one hit apiece for the home team.

Carmichaels dropped to 2-4 this season.

BELLE VERNON 5, THOMAS JEFFERSON 3 — Belle Vernon scored two runs in the top of the eighth inning and held off Thomas Jefferson in the bottom of the frame for a victory in Fayette County American Legion play at Thomas Jefferson.

Brendon Geho singled to lead off the eighth and advanced to second on Chase Petrosky’s sacrifice bunt.

Pinch runner Aiden Shaffer moved to third on a balk and scored on JB Crovak’s sacrifice flyout to center field for a 4-3 lead. Dom Pireaux was hit-by-pitch before crossing home plate when Cole Matusik walked with the bases loaded.

Thomas Jefferson’s Chase Barnes walked to lead off the bottom of the eighth, but Maddox Ceccarelli induced a lineout to center field, a groundout that he fielded himself and recorded a strikeout to earn the win on the mound.

Ceccarelli didn’t allow a run or hit over 1 â…“ innings pitched. He struck out and walked one.

Matuski had three hits with a solo home run to center field in the fifth frame, a triple in the second and a single in the seventh.

Landon Jackson hit a solo home run to left field in the fifth. Vito Francia doubled for the visitors with a line drive to left field in the seventh.

Belle Vernon (5-1) is at Charleroi (3-3) today at 6 p.m.

Thomas Jefferson dropped to 2-3-1.
