High Point Raceway to continue Father’s Day tradition
It is difficult to locate Mount Morris on a map, as the unincorporated community in Greene County has a population of less than 650, but the area is a hotspot this time of year, as High Point Raceway, which is four miles east of Mount Morris, will host the 49th running of the High Point National on Saturday at the motocross track.
The event, which began in 1977, coincides with Father’s Day weekend, and has run every year since its inception, with 2020 being the exception due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
High Point National has featured a number of world-class motocross racers, including Ricky Carmichael, who won six consecutive 450 Class championships from 2002-07.
This year’s event will serve as the fourth round of racing in the 2026 Pro Motocross Championship, which is sanctioned by AMA Pro Racing. The 21st round of the 2026 Super Motocross World Championship (SMX) will also be contested.
The schedule for High Point National begins at 8 a.m. with practice and qualifying prior to the opening ceremonies at 12:15 p.m. First Motos (250SMX Class & 450SMX Class) are set for 1 p.m. and Second Motos (WMX, 250SMX Class, 450SMX Class) will follow at 3:30 p.m.
Australia’s Jett Lawrence, who is seeking his fourth straight championship, is the odds-on-favorite, but he will be pushed by his brother, Hunter Lawrence, along with Haiden Deegan and Spanish world champion Jorge Prado. The field features world-class talent from more than a dozen countries.
The Women’s Motocross Championship (WMX) will return to High Point Raceway after missing last year’s event.
Back-to-back champion Lachlan “Lala” Turner, Australia’s Charli Cannon, Dutch world champion Lotte van Drunen and the United States’ Mikayla Nielsen will provide just as much excitement and competition as the men.
High Point Raceway is affectionately known as the “Country Club of Motocross,” as its aesthetics provides spectators with a picturesque scene. The track is unique in itself, as constant elevation changes, soaring jumps and a multitude of sequences provides the riders and fans a jaw-dropping experience.
