Mustangs fall; Larkins scores 42 in Geibel victory
Cam Rockwell and Cooper Rankin combined for 49 points to help Franklin Regional defeat Laurel Highlands, 74-43, in boys basketball action in the Holiday Bash at Geneva College on Saturday.
Rockwell scored a game-high 20 points and Rankin had 10 for the Panthers (8-1).
Ethan Koffler paced the Mustangs (2-8) with 15 points and Aiden Black added 12 points.
Lincoln Park 82, Belle Vernon 47 – Belle Vernon fell behind early in a non-section road loss to defending PIAA champion Lincoln Park in a battle of Leopards.
Lincoln Park (7-2) ran off to a 27-9 lead in the first quarter and led 47-22 at halftime.
Zion Moore led Belle Vernon (5-2) with a game-high 26 points.
Brandon Cummings and Maleek Thomas both scored 22 points for Lincoln Park. Richaki Lum finished with 16 points.
Girls basketball
Geibel Catholic 49, Turkeyfoot Valley 44 – The Lady Gators came back from a 30-24 halftime deficit to top the host Lady Rams in a non-section game.
Emma Larkin rang up 42 points to lead the way for Geibel (7-2), which also got seven points from Ava Henderson.
The Lady Gators rode an 18-6 advantage in the third quarter to a 42-36 lead and held on from there.
Maleigha Younkin tallied 19 points for Turkeyfoot (4-6). Shyanne Schur chipped in with 12 points.
