Greene man pleads guilty to abusing infant

A Greene County man accused of beating and sexually assaulting his infant son last year pleaded guilty to all counts against him in Greene County Court of Common Pleas Tuesday. Zachary Bryte, 26, of Washington Township, was arrested and charged with attempted homicide in June after his month-old son was taken to UPMC Greene with seizure-like symptoms. The child was then transferred to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, W.Va, where doctors found a skull fracture, brain bleeding, rib fractures and other injuries that they determined to be consistent with severe trauma. Layton Bridge to temporarily close next week for inspections

There will be short-term daytime closures of the Layton Bridge over the Youghiogheny River in Perry Township next week while crews inspect the historic 127-year-old span, the state Department of Transportation announced Tuesday. PennDOT crews will close the bridge daily from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. beginning Monday and continuing until May 15 as part of routine inspections. Detours will be posted in the area. The single-lane bridge and nearby tunnel – both of which were once used by the railroad – will be replaced by the end of 2029 as PennDOT works to build a new span across the river.
